A patent application covering the fetal-inspired regenerative biomaterial platform for the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration and associated low back pain - the foundation of Fetalix's technology - has been filed.
The invention is based on a decellularized extracellular matrix derived from fetal tissue. This biomaterial is characterized by a unique composition rich in specific collagen types and is designed to interact with the patient’s own disc cells to stimulate regenerative activity. Preclinical findings demonstrate that it promotes the production of key extracellular matrix components essential for healthy disc structure and function.
The patent also covers the formulation and manufacturing of the biomaterial into injectable pharmaceutical compositions, including microparticle and hydrogel-based formats designed for minimally-invasive intradiscal administration.
